Mexico City International Airport In 2001, there were plans to move the international airport to Texcoco, but those plans were scrapped in 2002 after farmers revolted against the government. The farmers had no legal rights to the land where they were farming, and the government wanted the land back, so they offered the farmers a minimal payment for their land. The farmers rejected it and rebellion broke loose. The farmers won, and the city of Atenco, a neighboring city of Texcoco, is now known as a group of professional protestors who come out whenever they don't agree with the government. Recently, however, the plans were reinstated, and the airport construction has begun. The only internet information that I found on the new airport is found here, although it is old information. |
