Ministry News
We are finishing up our church integration class this month. This class
has been good in allowing the people to see what the church requires of
it’s members as we start to form a church membership.
Please pray for Salvador Venegas and his family. As we mentioned in the
last update, we are very pleased with their commitment to the church.
He is now taking turns with Rolland and I teaching a men’s Bible study
on Saturdays. We are praying that he will continue to develop into a
leader in the church.
This Friday, a group from Oregon will be coming down to Texcoco to do a
week of VBS and an evangelistic youth sports day. This has the
potential to open up doors to get contacts with people we may not be
able to reach in other settings. They will also be picking up trash in
different communities as well as passing out tracts and flyers.
A few weeks ago, a lady from our church who put us in contact with a new
family. This led to a new Bible club for kids and youth. We’ve had
about 8 kids and 4 youth come to the club. This Saturday, the 4 youth
will be coming to their first church activity when the group from Oregon
puts on a Youth sports day. All four of the youth have made
professions, and we hope that now they will start to grow.
The Mexico City international airport is moving to Texcoco. The
projected date of the opening of the airport is 2010. The move of
the airport is good news and bad news. It is good news because it will
bring in a lot of new people, and when people move away from their
families, they are more open to the gospel. That is why Texcoco is
currently such a hard place to reach, because it is very Catholic, and
most people have lived here all their lives and are still surrounded by
their families who put on a lot of pressure when they talk about leaving
the Catholic Church. The bad news is that this will cause land value to
increase significantly. We are currently trying to raise money from
within our church to buy property, but we are a long way from being able
to buy anything. We want our people to take responsibility for their
own needs. Please pray for us as we try to raise a significant amount
of money in the next year.
Marriages in Mexico are very weak. In the past few months, two couples
have talked about separating. We are counseling one of those couples,
and the Smith’s are counseling the other. Several other families are
also going through marriage struggles as well. We have had two marriage
conferences over the past two months, and we are going to keep this as a
focus as this is a big need in our church and community.
As for physical needs
within the church, please pray that God would take
Teresita home to be with
him. She is dying from cancer and being cared for at home. This has
caused a heavy burden on the family, which is producing other family
problems. Also, about a month ago, Juanito, almost died from intestine
problems. He is healing, but he has a long way to go. His wife,
Elvirita, is also
scheduled for surgery next month because she can barely walk because of
varicose veins.
