What holiday is Cinco de Mayo?

A.  Virgin of Guadalupe Day

B.  Independence Day

C.  Celebration of the battle of Puebla

D.  Mexican Flag Day

E.  Labor Day

The correct answer is C, a celebration of the battle of Puebla.  On 5 de Mayo, May 5th, 1862, The French attacked the city of Puebla, and the outnumbered Mexican militia defeated the French French army.

Now, 5 de Mayo, is a holiday which is celebrated in Puebla, Mexico and in the U.S.A., ironically.  It is not really celebrated much in Mexico outside of Puebla.  Many Americans wrongly think that May 5th is the Mexican Independence Day.
