Ministry News

It’s Easter week vacation(the week before and after Easter Sunday), and things really slow down here in Mexico. A lot of people leave the big city and head out into the country or to the beach. It’s a time for partying instead of remembering the death and resurrection of our Lord. Those that do celebrate, focus on good Friday, and ignore the resurrection on Sunday.

Things at church are going well. We are currently looking for a property to buy because we no longer fit comfortably in the current place that we are renting. We have a goal as a church to raise about $4,000 this year to buy a property. The church already has about $6,500 saved up from before this year. So far this year, we’ve raised about $940 this year for the project. Please pray that God will allow our people to reach the goal that they set.

We have started two small groups in the church. Things are going well. In our small group, we are studying on growing in Christ, but we are also throwing in some evangelistic marriage studies as well. Last week, 2 new families came, and one of them asked for marriage counseling after the study. They aren’t saved yet, but we praise the Lord for this step.

About a year ago, we mentioned a man named Oscar who was being unfaithful to his wife, who comes to our church. We praise the Lord that he is starting to take steps to get right with God. They just had a baby, and God has been working on him. He still has a long way to go, but we praise God for what we are seeing.

We continue to do leadership training classes with Salvador and Lino. We are currently studying the qualifications of an elder. Salvador is becoming more confident in public speaking. Lino quit his job, and now only works part time so that he can be more involved in the ministry. After he did that, the church decided to pay him $1000 pesos/month(about $80) to work part-time in the church. He’s doing Bible studies, preaches at Alcoholic’s Anonymous weekly, is preaching every third week at church, and he’s also in charge of making sure that everything is in order at the church building. He has a long term goal of going to Honduras as a missionary, but our prayer is that he stays in Texcoco to be the pastor.

Susan and others are training Sunday School teachers for our three Sunday School classes.  As the church has grown, we’ve had a lot of new kids coming, so this is a needed area.  This is a big commitment for these ladies as they take on this new responsibility.

We plan on staying in Texcoco until the summer of 2011. At that time we will be returning the to U.S. for home assignment. When we return to Mexico, we will be returning to a new area in Mexico. We currently don’t know where we will go, but we are starting to look into it some options. Please pray for God’s direction as we look for where He would have us begin a new ministry.

Joshua is finishing 4th grade, Caleb is finishing 1st grade, and Abby is having fun playing school. It’s fun watching Aaron learn more each day. Josh and Caleb are still on the soccer team, but they are having fun with American sports like baseball and rollerblading as well.

Thank you so much for your support of the ministry in Mexico! You are an important part of our team!
Thanks, Bryan, Susan, Josh, Caleb, Abby, and Aaron
