Ministry News Dear Friends,
It’s good to be out of the heat of the U.S. into the cool Mexican weather. It has been mostly in the 70’s here, and it rarely gets above 80 degrees. 🙂 It has been very difficult to find a house to rent. People don’t advertise rentals much in the areas where we are looking. We drove around almost every day for two weeks looking. We finally decided that we’d better start calling the houses that were listed for sale to ask if they would rent to us instead. We found one that would. It took us about 10 days to get a cosigner, which many landlords require in Mexico, with all of the right documentation that was required. Finally, we got it two days before we were planning on moving in. They sent us the contract, and in the contract it said that we could only stay as long as he didn’t sell the house, which we specifically asked about ahead of time, and had been assured would not happen. There were a lot of things that need fixing in the house (hook ups for washer and dryer, no railing on the stairs, no kitchen cabinets or counters etc.), and in Mexico, the renter is responsible for most repairs. So, we would have ended up putting in a lot of money in repairs to possibly see the house taken away at any moment. The owner wouldn’t remove that clause. So, we are back to square one without a house, which is a little discouraging, but that means that God has a different house for us. Please pray with us that we find it quickly. It’s been good to see the church family that we hadn’t seen in a year. Bryan preached in Texcoco when we first got back. Our Spanish was a little rusty, but we’re getting back into the swing of things. We met a young Christian family who lives in Heroes, where we will be starting the new ministry. They would like to get involved in our new church! Her parents, who have been active in church for years, also said that they would like to help us to start a church. So we are glad to have some help! If you are interested in coming to Mexico on a missions trip, we would love to have you! We are looking for groups that would like to come down for a week or two, or individuals/couples/families who would like to come for several months, a year, or even longer! Contact us if you are interested or have any questions. For the longer trips, we are looking for ESL teachers, counselors, children’s and women’s ministry, etc. God can use whatever talents and gifts He has given you in Mexico! Family News Bryan has had several physical problems lately. This spring, he had severe reflux. An endoscopy showed a growth on his esophagus. It isn’t cancerous, but they put him on Prilosec for a year. Then, in June, he had a physical for life insurance, and they found elevated enzymes in his liver. We didn’t find this out until we returned to Mexico. He had an ultrasound which didn’t reveal any liver damage. The ultrasound did reveal a large kidney stone however. He has a doctor’s appointment with a specialist this week in Mexico City to find out more about his liver. Susan is doing well, although she is anxious to have a home, as we have been unsettled since June. The kids are readjusting to life in Mexico, and noticing things that used to be normal to them before we returned to the U.S. Nathan is growing. He’s 3 months old now. He now smiles and laughs which is fun. Mexico News Presidential elections were held last month, and a liberal candidate, Peña Nieto, won. We will find out over time how he does with Mexico’s biggest problem, the drug wars. A printable version can be downloaded here Praises
