Ministry News

Dear Friends,

Happy Reformation Day!  Today, October 31st is the day that Martin Luther hung his 95 thesis which started the reformation.  Here in Mexico, people are getting ready for the Day of the Dead.   This is a Mexican holiday where people put out bright orange flowers to help the spirits of their dead family members find their way back to their home or cemetery.  Waiting for them is an offering on an altar with their favorite food along with other things.  It’s believed that they eat the spiritual essence of the food.  The sad part is that many Mexicans believe this, and practice this.  The people are lost and need the gospel.  You can read more about the day of the dead here.

We started our Sunday School in the end of August, and after two months, things are going well.  We are averaging about 15 people(adults and kids) attending.  Some of them have come to know the Lord while others are still in the process of understanding it.  Along with the gospel, we are teaching them how to pray and read the Bible.  We have two ladies from another church who help us by teaching the children’s class while Susan teaches the younger class.  We aren’t at the point of starting worship services yet, but as the people grow, we hope that this will turn into a service.

Susan’s Wednesday Bible study is going well.  It is exciting to see them getting exited about studying the Bible.  Each week they share how God is working and their lives are changing!

Susan has started another women’s Bible study.  A lady asked for a Bible study after the cooking and crafting classes and two other ladies have decided to stay for the Bible study as well.  One of these ladies has been coming regularly to other activities, but would always stay away whenever we had a Bible study.  She still isn’t saved, but she’s opening up.

In September, we had the Mexican Independence Day celebration.  We were expecting 20-30, but we had 50 in attendance.  The majority of those who attended are not Christians.  Hugo, who is helping us and wants to go as a missionary to Indonesia, shared the gospel.

Family News

We are in the middle of birthday season. Abby and Caleb had birthdays in September, Aaron in October, and Josh in November. This has kept Susan busy making birthday cakes. Susan is a good artist, and always makes special cakes for their birthdays.

We’re still praying for more help in the ministry so that Susan doesn’t have to do so much as she is extremely busy.
