January,
2004
Dear
Faithful Supporters,
We
trust that you are all doing well. It’s
hard to believe that it’s almost the end of January already.
The year 2004 has been very eventful already.
This month has been a difficult month for us, with a lot of
emotional ups and downs. A
couple of weeks ago, Susan had a miscarriage.
We found out at a routine Doctor’s visit on the 6th, and the
following day he performed a D and C.
She was carrying twins at about 12 weeks.
She is healing well. This
has been a difficult time, especially for Susan, but we are finding that
God’s grace truly is sufficient. Thank
you to all of you who have sent us encouraging emails.
We really do appreciate your prayers.
Classes
have started up again in the universities.
Bryan
has begun tutoring in English all day on Mondays and Fridays.
He is also working with a Christian group called “Gospel”
within the university. This
next week, he will be starting an evangelism training course with the
members of that group. In the
other university, he will be tutoring several students in English.
These tutoring sessions are an attempt to build relationships to be
able to share the gospel.
In
the church, our first evangelism training course is almost finished.
We took a long break from the class over the holidays.
During that time the 3 people currently in the class organized a
pre-evangelistic activity called “La Partida
de La Rosca,” which is celebrated every year
in Mexico around Three Kings Day (January 6).
We had some unsaved visitors come, including Rodolfo and Blanca, a
couple which have been coming to many church activities.
They are friends of another couple in the church.
We will be starting a second evangelism training class in the
beginning of February with approximately 7 people who will be taking the
course.
Joshua
and Caleb are doing well. Last
week Grandma and Grandpa Nevin were here, so Josh and Caleb had a great
time with them. Josh starts
pre-school on Tuesday for two days a week.
He will be able to go with another missionary boy, who will be able
to help him with the language a little bit until he learns more Spanish.
We are hoping that he will be able to pick up a lot of the language
and make some new friends, and that this will help him with the adjustment
to living here. We are also
praying that this will be a great opportunity to meet some of the unsaved
parents.
We
are moving forward now with our plans for the future.
Things are starting to get a little clearer.
We are excited to see the possibilities that God is opening up.
We are looking into 4 different options that have been presented to
us. All four ministries are
church plants in different cities with a Mexican missionary/pastor.
We hope to visit these places within the next several months, and
find the fit that God has intended for us.
Then, in September, October, and possibly November, we will be
returning to the States to raise some much needed support, since we will
be approximately $1500/month under supported.
We are hoping to go from the States directly to work in our new
ministry. We really
appreciate your prayers for guidance as we make some vital decisions in
the next few months.
